Client: Susee Hyundai
We were commissioned to design a showroom for Susee Hyundai, set inside a bustling road in Madurai. The Showroom was to dramatically house the brand in the city while fulfilling the need to respond to the high volume context and demands and inspired primarily by the industrial nature of the site.
In our various deliberations on space allocation and programming, the key concerns were to be able to strike a balance between collaborative and private zones and strike a balance between the regulations of the label and the design proposed. The philosophy was to bring in by conceptualizing environments on each floor that would speak to a specific demography with a completely different point of view while evoking ambience and purpose in various ways.
The internal spaces are segregated into 4 important zones; Showroom at Ground level, Mechanical repair area and Delivery and Inspection at Semi-basement level and all management cabins are further split at first level Rather than push all the management cabins and prime conference and to the periphery of the office to claim the best views and natural light, we deliberately chose to set them in at the first level, and mechanical arenas at basement providing degrees of privacy as and when required. This created a wide common lounge spaces, leading from the entrance lobby, an imposing glass panels sweeps past the foyer into the main office, hugging the lounge, with casual seating, along with reception and display arena at ground floor level. On the peripheries at entrance stand geometrically composed glass lattice screens that act both as dividers and sliding privacy screens throughout the showroom.
The materiality of the office and showroom arena has natural textures and deep tones, and elements like the glass panels and lighting evoke a sense of ambience in the space. The main flooring has large expanses of cast-in-tiles and these contrasts with the warmth of white and beige on ceilings. Indoor plants, Furniture, Cabins, Window frames are purely in contrast to accentuate the solid cover.
